AS ONE FOREST HILLS
ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
Forest Hills Public Schools wants every visitor to our website to feel welcome and find what they need. Cultivating possibility means building a site that works for all learners, families, and community members — however they access it.
OUR COMMITMENT
We design and maintain fhps.net to be usable by people of all abilities, including those who use screen readers, screen magnification, voice recognition, or keyboard-only navigation. Our goal is to meet Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, the standard used by school districts and public agencies nationwide.
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA
- Section 504 and Title II compliant intent
- Keyboard accessible
- Screen reader friendly
WHAT GUIDELINES DO WE FOLLOW?
Our website is built and reviewed against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more usable for people with visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities — and more user-friendly for everyone.
WCAG defines three levels of conformance: A, AA, and AAA. Forest Hills Public Schools has adopted Level AA as our target across fhps.net and our school sites.
HOW DO WE MONITOR AND MAINTAIN ACCESSIBILITY?
Accessibility isn’t a one-time project for us — it’s an ongoing practice. We:
- Run regular automated scans of fhps.net to identify and correct issues as they’re found.
- Train our website content editors on accessible writing, image alt text, heading structure, and document formatting.
- Review new pages, forms, and features for accessibility before they go live.
- Work with our web development and hosting partners to ensure new tools and templates meet our accessibility standards.
Even with these efforts, no website is ever 100% perfect for every visitor, every time. If something isn’t working for you, we want to hear about it — see “Tell us what you think” below.
DOCUMENTS, PDFs, AND DOWNLOADABLE FILES
Some materials on our website, such as forms, newsletters, and board documents, are provided as PDFs. Viewing these may require Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is free to download.
We’re working to ensure documents posted to our site are accessible to screen readers and other assistive technology. If you come across a document you can’t access, contact us and we’ll provide the information in an alternative format.
THIRD-PARTY TOOLS AND OUTSIDE LINKS
Our website links to a number of third-party platforms and services — things like PowerSchool, our meal payment system, and social media. While we choose partners who share our commitment to accessibility, FHPS does not control the accessibility of websites or tools we don’t own or maintain.
Where third-party content is essential to a district program or service — for example, a video about one of our schools or a required enrollment form — we work to make sure that information is available in an accessible format, such as captioned video or an accessible alternative document.
TELL US WHAT YOU THINK
If you have trouble accessing any part of our website, or have suggestions for how we can improve, we want to know. Please include the web address (URL) of the page and a description of the issue so we can look into it quickly.
