BEGIN YOUR STUDENT'S EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY

As One Forest Hills, we’re so glad you’re here! Become a Hawk, Husky, or Ranger and start your incredible journey with Forest Hills Public Schools, a place to dream big, be inspired, and watch your student’s future take flight!

While most of our students and families live within the Forest Hills district, we’re proud to welcome families from neighboring communities through the Schools of Choice program. Wherever you’re coming from, there’s a place for your family here, and we can’t wait to help you get started.

NEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT

Whether your family is new to the area or new to Forest Hills Public Schools, it is easy to take the first step toward joining the FHPS community.

To enroll in Forest Hills Public Schools, families must reside within the district’s attendance boundaries or apply through the Schools of Choice program.

"School pride in Forest Hills is contagious. Whether your kids are Rangers, Hawks, or Huskies, they wear it proudly, celebrating each other's wins, and feeling part of something bigger. Our children don't just attend FHPS; they belong here, and so do we."

WHAT IS SCHOOLS OF CHOICE AT FHPS?

FHPS participates in the Kent County Collaborative Schools of Choice Program. At the time of application, families must physically reside in one of the Kent ISD school districts, but not in the Forest Hills Public Schools District.

FHPS does not participate in the State of Michigan 105/105c Schools of Choice Programs. These programs are for families residing outside of Kent County.

  • We anticipate receiving more applications than available openings. Therefore, applicants are selected through a random lottery system.
  • If selected, we will do our best to place your child at your requested school. However, class sizes may require an alternate placement. Initial placements are tentative and may be changed any time prior to the first day of school.
  • Placement may be denied for students who have been suspended, expelled, or convicted of a felony.
  • Once accepted into SOC, there is no need to apply every year as long as you reside in a qualifying district.
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
  • There are MHSAA requirements for transfer students. Please review the sport-specific transfer rules from the MHSAA .
  • For additional information about the Schools of Choice program, please visit the KISD Schools of Choice website.
MHSAA TRANSFER RULES

Schools of Choice is ONLY for families who live outside the FHPS district. If a family resides within the FHPS district, a family's place of residency determines the FHPS school the child attends.
