PRINCIPAL OF CENTRAL WOODLANDS 5/6 SCHOOL

AMY BURTON-MAJOR

I’m Principal Amy Burton-Major, “Mrs. Major” to our students, and it’s a privilege to lead this wonderful school community. My career in public education spans 28 years, starting as a 5th-grade teacher and growing through roles as a school librarian, ELA/drama teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal, along with a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University. After my first principalship in Whitehall, Michigan, I joined Forest Hills Public Schools in 2013 as principal of Orchard View Elementary, then became Central Woodlands’ principal in 2017.

As principal, I lead with empathy, cultivating a learning environment where every child feels safe, valued, and challenged to reach their full potential, while supporting our staff through collaboration and high-quality professional learning. The foundation built in these middle elementary years is key to lifelong success. Our team fosters curiosity and a love of learning for every student, living out our district’s guiding principles with caring and kindness in all we do.
