FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH THIS SCHOOL YEAR

Forest Hills students will continue to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day during the 2026-27 school year, thanks to Michigan’s continued support of free school meals for all public school students. This program helps ensure every student has access to nutritious meals at no cost to families.

Students have a variety of options for breakfast and lunch, and all meals meet USDA nutrition standards for school meals.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR BREAKFAST

  • Breakfast is available in the cafeteria before the start of every school day.
  • Students who would like breakfast should proceed to the cafeteria immediately upon their arrival at school.
  • Each breakfast includes one entree, one or more servings of fruit, and one carton of milk.

K-4 & K-5 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Students will have an ID card attached to their backpack that they will need to present when getting breakfast.  This process is for meal-claiming purposes only and will not charge your child’s account.

5/6 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, MIDDLE SCHOOLS, AND HIGH SCHOOLS

Students will check out at the register by typing in their ID number or scanning their ID card.  This process is for meal-claiming purposes only and will not charge your child’s account.

GOODWILLIE, TRANSITION CENTER, AND FLEX ACADEMY

Breakfast can be pre-ordered a week at a time via Nutrislice (https://fhps.nutrislice.com/menu).  Select your school and click on the items desired.  Breakfast pickup will be at a designed location within your school building.

WHAT TO EXPECT FOR LUNCH

  • Lunch is available in the cafeteria on every full day of school.  Lunch is not served on half days of school.
  • Lunch includes one entree, a choice of at least one serving of a fruit or vegetable, though students are encouraged to take both, and one carton of milk.

K-4 & K-5 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Teachers place student entree orders each morning.  We offer three entree choices daily (one or more entree is always vegetarian).  Each lunch includes your child’s choice of at least one serving of fruits and vegetables from a rotating selection on our salad bars, and white or chocolate low fat milk.

5/6 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, MIDDLE SCHOOLS, AND HIGH SCHOOLS

These schools are designed with a food court-style setup, offering students a variety of stations and entree options to choose from each day.

  • Create Station: Offers home-style meal options and favorite like breakfast for lunch, global cuisine, and pastas.
  • Grill Station: Offers student favorites like cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, and wings and includes meatless options like Bosco Sticks. veggie burgers and vegan Chik’n nuggets.
  • 2MATO Station:  Cheese, pepperoni, and specialty homemade pizzas offered daily.
  • On the Go Station: Salads, wraps, parfaits, and smoothies
  • Sono Station (available at Central High, Eastern Middle & High, and Northern High only): Made- to-order nachos, tacos, burritos, and rice bowls.All meals include a choice of fruits and vegetables and white or chocolate low fat milk.

A LA CARTE PURCHASES

  • A la carte items are available for purchase at 5/6 elementary schools and all middle and high schools.
  • A la carte items are not included with a school meal.  Students must have cash or funds in their food service account to fully cover the price of a la carte items.
  • Examples of a la carte items include bottled beverages, homemade cookies, ice cream, second entrees, and an assorted varieties of packaged chips and snacks. Additional cartons of milk or a carton of milk without the purchase of a  school meal are also available a la carte for $.75 per carton.
  • All a la carte items comply with the Smart Snacks in Schools standards.
  • If you do not want your child to purchase a la carte items you can block or limit purchases via their Meal Magic Family Portal account or by contacting the food service office.

Charging Policy

All students will be allowed to purchase a reimbursable meal regardless of their account balance. A la carte items may not be charged. Students must have cash or funds in their food service account for all a la carte purchases. Parents or guardians are responsible for any negative balance accrued on their student(s) accounts.

How to Add Funds to a Student's Account

To deposit funds using a credit or debit card visit the Meal Magic Family Portal, click on the Instructions or How-To Videos links on the main page for help getting started.

You may also add funds with cash or by check in your school’s office or at the food service office (160 Alta Dale Ave SE, Ada, MI 49301). Make sure all funds are clearly marked “food service” and include your child’s first and last name and student ID number.

What's on the Menu After a School Cancellation Due to Inclement Weather?

If school is cancelled due to inclement weather for one, two or three days in a row the menu will remain as published. For example, if school is cancelled on Monday and Tuesday due to inclement weather and school resumes on Wednesday, we will serve Wednesday’s menu as scheduled.

Lunch Choices for Students Arriving After the Start of the School Day- K-4 & K-5 Elementary Schools Only

We will do our best to provide the student with their desired lunch choice, however there may be times when what they request is not available. Please be aware that while a lunch will always be provided, they might not receive their preferred entree.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Although school meals are provided free of charge to all Forest Hills Public School students, families are encouraged to complete the Education and Nutrition Benefits form (formerly called the free and reduced price school meals application) each year.  Qualifying for benefits may provide additional benefits for your child such as reduced fees for activities and testing, discounts on internet service, and funds for food support during the summer months.  These application are also critical in determining funding from a variety of state and federal programs for our district.

Vegetarian Options

Vegetarian entree option are offered at both breakfast and lunch daily at all of our schools. Vegan choices may be available as well. Please check your school’s menu for more information.

Food Allergies or Other Special Dietary Needs

If your student has a special dietary need due to a disability or medical issue, special dietary accommodations can be made. Please complete the special diet request form. This form must be signed by a state licensed medical provider to be valid.

If a student requires a substitution for fluid milk only, parents, guardians, or a medical provider may provide a written request that includes the medical or other special dietary reason for the substitution.

Our food service department is proud to offer catering for FHPS meetings, celebrations, and staff and student events. Our executive chef will work with you to plan the perfect menu whether you choose from our catering menu or would like assistance creating a customized option.
