Heather Fix is proud to serve as the principal of Thornapple Elementary, now in her third year leading this wonderful neighborhood school. Before joining Thornapple, she served as an Assistant Principal within Forest Hills Public Schools and taught for seven years in the district and three years prior to that. A graduate of Grand Valley State University, Heather’s passion has always centered on classroom learning and supporting both teachers and students in their growth.
Her leadership philosophy is student-centered, collaborative, and relationship-driven—grounded in the belief that strong connections among students, staff, and families create the best conditions for learning. Thornapple perfectly reflects her vision of a community-based school where children learn, play, and grow together each day.
Outside of school, Heather is a proud mom to three young children. Her family loves spending time outdoors—whether it’s swimming and hiking in the summer or sledding and exploring snowy trails in the winter. She is honored to lead the Thornapple community and continue fostering a safe, supportive environment where all students can thrive.
