Dawn Heerema brings a deep commitment to student growth, instructional excellence, and inclusive learning to her role as Principal of Meadow Brook Elementary. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education and began her career teaching in Grand Rapids and Denver, Colorado and then landing in Hudsonville Public Schools where she taught elementary students and developed a passion for supporting the needs of all learners.
Her passion for supporting learners at all levels led her to serve as a district Gifted and Talented Coach. From there she moved into a role in the Curriculum Office where she supported K-12 teaching and learning through instructional coaching and professional development, with a special emphasis on strengthening elementary instructional practices.
In 2018, Dawn moved into school leadership as the principal of a K–5 building, where she cultivated a thriving school community grounded in collaboration and community connection. She joined Meadow Brook Elementary as principal in 2022, where she continues to champion an environment where every student feels known, supported, and valued.
Dawn is especially passionate about literacy development and loves watching students deepen their problem-solving abilities through rich mathematical dialogue. She values leading a building filled with diverse learners and dedicated staff and is committed to fostering a school culture where both students and educators grow together.
